Concept

A compact, self-contained pod that reads local temperature and humidity and pushes the data online.

The goal was to build something small enough to deploy in the enclosures with the captive snakes, built on the Waveshare ESP32-C6-Zero, with no reliance on a dedicated server.

Firmware & Data

The ESP reads sensor values on a set interval and uploads them online via WiFi. The flexibility to set the sampling frequency and upload frequency to suit our study and manage power.

Challenges

  • Theoretical values and estimation vary from deployment values. Important concern currently is the battery discharge due to environmental temperature.
  • The accuracy of sensors.
